I have a new animation out also I share my thoughts!!!

Posted by LazyMuffin - July 20th, 2012

It's been a slow couple of months.
SO LETS TRY AND GET BACK INTO THIS SHIT.

Watch my new animation "I'll be there for you", maybe you'll get a giggle out of it. Or watch it on the tubes -

Besides that I'm still in a conflict of whether or not to do freelance work to make money. At the moment I think it's smart to try and push forward with my own writing, but maybe it'd be good to do some animation-networking. WHO KNOWS.

Best case scenario - I actually make Nameless 7 and everyone on youtube likes it like they did Eddsworld. I would be happy making just Nameless for a little while. I should get on it. I WILL GET ON IT.

I am still jealous of people who make parodies and get millions of views and I'm still not sure how to handle that.
Also here is my Bandcamp if anyone likes gay covers of gay songs.

BYE!

Don't you mean Nameless 8?

I would mean that if I skipped an episode, but I would rather not skip episode 7.

well, the thing is that it would be better to make another parody, at least one more before the next namesless, for example meme city got a lot of views and gave you some extra subs (even tho is not a parody per se, but a take on something trending, but meh), i think that before continuing with nameless you should get some extra subs, maybe collab, then you launch nameless and its gonna be like "omggg wheres yotam ? oh thats right ... HES IN THE TOP 100 AFTER HIS LAST NAMELESS " or something like that.

I loved the kissing part at the end of this animation ahahahahah.

Okay now share my thoughts

i love your work.

I feel the same way about people making parodies get more views, but I read an interview with Egoraptor basically saying it's not a bad thing to make those to reach a demographic (get their attention) and then slap them in the faces with your own original work! To be honest, I have some parodies in the woyks to get my name out!

work a super low stress fun job part time. Then work on animations in your own time.

Shut up, you're famous. You get mentioned on RBR like once a month lol ;)

Do some parodies, but make them with your own style. That way, fans, like me, will enjoy them, and so will other people who will become fans.

It's hard to make parodies in your own style cause it's not really my style.

I hope you do Nameless and it explodes like Edds World :D A little parody here and there wouldn't hurt, but you've established a name for yourself so you could do your own stuff and still bank.

In my excuse I'm doing parodies to improve my animation and build a fan base! For the longest time I wanted to just do my own thing (and I did, in comic form), but... I guess I went over to the dark side.

That was adorable.
As for freelance animation... As someone doing freelance animation:
Fuck. That. Shit.
Don't do it unless you need the money, 'cause it feels like selling your body.
As for parodies... Follow your heart. Life's too short to pander.
IT'S TOO SHORT, MAN.

MMM, thanks for the input.
Appreciated.

Yeah I agree Max Gilardi.

BELLA.......TOASTAAA!

Your my CHILDHOOD! I love you. <3

I know exactly what you mean about the parodies, it's stressful. I'm not opposed to the notion of making parodies, and if I had an idea for one that I really liked then I'd make it. It's also a lot of fun messing with other people's character designs, so I really wish I did have a parody idea to justify it. But generally my ideas aren't parodies, and I'm not comfortable with making one just for the sake of it. I'm an animator because I wanna make my ideas, and the joy of making stuff for the internet is I can make whatever I want and there's no "higher-ups" telling me what to do. So if I ended up making things I don't like even when I'm the one making all the creative decisions, then surely It defeats the purpose and I may as well go work in a banner ad factory.
So yeah, I know how you feel. Tender cuddles, fella.

Yeah, you hit it on the head.

Right on Aardvark. I don't particularly like making parodies either but it certainly helps gain exposure. Thanks to one pokemon parody I may actually stand a chance at living off animating, however I still put a ton of time and effort into making it, so I'm proud of it. In any case, you're awesome Yotam, I'll always look forward to your animations, whatever they may be.

Your Pokemon parody felt like an exception to me, maybe it's because the animation was what made it great. It didn't really relay on parody-humor which is mostly observational. Thaaaanks, keep it up.

I believe that parodies are the greatest thing on the internet, require a lot of creative talent, and take a really long time to conceptualize. Parody jokes are the highest hanging fuit, and those who enjoy parodies are the highest common denominator. Why watch something with carefully crafted jokes with a setup and payoff when you can see familiar characters in whacky scenarios they wouldn't normally be in, or pointing out obvious contradictions from normal life? THAT SHIT IS SO FUNNY!

Ok but no offense Yotam but why don't you get some people to do the voices?
I mean I know you do all the chracters right. If I'm wrong sorry..

I actually answered this on my TUMBLR -

As of late, since IâEUTMve been mostly making shorts, IâEUTMve been voicing all my characters. I realized I really enjoy improvising while recording sketches, which is one of the main reasons I do all the voices. Improvising with voice actors is really difficult to do, and you canâEUTMt always count on them to have your sense of humor. It did work well when I did it with Max Gilardi on âEUoeYotam & Fantasia 3 - MaxâEU, so IâEUTMm hoping to do more of that. But when it comes to bigger projects (Stormface[fox pilot], Nameless) I do take the time to invest in proper voice actors, cause theyâEUTMre better at doing voices.

I did a thing with Pop-Culture with the Bronies, making Brony Stages and it got me the most views ever. If your looking for views and building am even bigger fan-base, do something relative to something popular! Parodies on new things are also a great way to get views.

It would be awesome if you went back to Nameless. I'd really like to see them animated once again since you've got so much new talent to unleash upon their world. I look forward to seeing Chocolate Boy and crip-crip.

I know that if I did that I'd get more views, I'm just not okay with that fact.

I promise I will.

I feel sorta ashamed now. Shit....should I just scrap the parody I've been working on for the past week...?

If an idea for a parody is what popped in your head and is what you want to do, go for it.
The fact I'm jealous of others parody-success doesn't deny it being a genuine source of entertainment for others.

People would kill to have the amount of views you get, I know I would. But I can understand why you'd want more and obviously the need to support yourself.
Is it worth sacrificing creative integrity for more views and money? Probably, maybe if you can do parodies and then balance in original cartoons that could work. Parodies are kind of like tags, you can't find original content by typing it in because you don't know what you're looking for but with a parody people will think "I wanna watch a Mario parody" (god forbid) so they type that in and if they like what you make they'll stick around or look through your other stuff.
The best thing to do is hook people with parodies and maybe delve a bit low for your standards so that you can continue making original things inbetween, spend more time on the original stuff and make some lazy parody every now and then to keep people hooked and reel in new viewers. It's shitty but if you want to make it you have to make sacrifices.
I've noticed that continuity brings in a lot of people, so carrying on a series like Nameless or starting something new, one that will be continuus can work the same way.
I mean, I don't really have any experience but I love your work so I thought it might be helpful to hear from a fan. Good luck or whatever
